APPEARANCE

For centuries the Portuguese Water Dog was prized by fisherman along Portugal’s coast for their spirited yet obedient nature. Their robust, medium build  allowed for a full days work in and out of the water. This breed is highly intelligent, loyal, and an alert guard dog. They have two distinctive coat types, either curly or wavy. They should have a substantial head in proportion to their ruggedly built and powerful body. The Portuguese Water Dog provides an incredible impression of strength, spirit and soundness. They are a non-shedding dog considered to be hypo-allergenic for most people. They are black, brown, or white with various contrasting markings. They need ample exercise, benefit well from training and need to be a part of the family. They love to swim and have the ability to dive. They are a “fun” dog to have around with a personality all their own.

Males – 20 to 23 inches tall and 45 to 60 pounds
